Minderoo | The Plastic Forecast
Minderoo | The Plastic Forecast
The world has created so much plastic, we've polluted almost every part of it. Now, plastic is even being found in our rain. As the UN met in Paris to discuss our plastic problem, we needed to negate plastic lobbyists and pressure delegates into meaningful change.
We made plastic part of everyday conversation by creating the world's first Plastic Forecast, a unique weather report which combined leading research on plastic in rain with daily weather data to determine the daily kilograms of plastic set to fall on Paris every day of the talks.
The forecast measures the amount of plastic in daily rainfall, allowing anyone to see the weight of our plastic problem. It combines landmark data on atmospheric plastic research with real-time weather data to provide a daily estimate of ‘plastic rain’ in kilograms. Scientists at the Minderoo Foundation were able to verify the data, applying it to the metropolitan area of France, allowing us to inject real-time weather data, creating a live Plastic Forecast for Paris throughout the UN's negotiations.
